Take the next step to lead the AAPA! Submit a nomination for the BOT by 3/31

BOT Nominations

Jennifer Perez

Dear AAPA Fellow Members,

Only two weeks remain to submit nominations for the AAPA Board of Trustees (BOT)! If you are interested in applying (or know of a colleague that would be a perfect fit), please submit your nomination by March 31st. Three seats are available for the upcoming 2023-2025 term. The election will be held in September, and results will be announced in October.

Below, Jennifer Perez details her volunteer journey – from a Grossing Guidelines contributor to Education Committee Chair and now to BOT Vice Chair/Secretary – and encourages others to take that first step to get involved because you never know where it might lead.

“I started volunteering with the AAPA never imagining where it would lead me. It was always important for me to be a part of my professional organization; however, I didn’t feel that I had anything unique to contribute. Nonetheless, I took the step to volunteer with the Grossing Guidelines, which allowed me to present a speaker at the New York conference. Hearing the testimonials of the founding fathers and meeting other volunteers at the conference allowed me to see a different perspective of what it meant to volunteer. The AAPA is an organization built on the backs of dedicated PA volunteers. Not only does it matter what we do for the AAPA, but it directly impacts the profession at large. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to serve in various roles in the Education Committee and speaker recruitment. Each role was a learning experience I will never forget. It allowed me to grow as a professional, taking me way out of my comfort zone, and I met some amazing colleagues along the way.

Many years later, I was asked to run for the Board of Trustees (BOT). I am in awe of what our founding fathers and past BOT members were able to accomplish (read more about that here). As a relatively young profession, we have had to fight, adapt, and grow into the profession we are today. The board deeply analyzes every survey, listens to our members’ requests, and tries to see how we can make changes to better serve our community of PAs. Each decision made is with the voice of the entire membership and not based on an individual’s opinion. The BOT advocates on behalf of our members to the medical world at large and works to push beyond previous boundaries. I have never been so proud to be a PA and serve alongside an amazing group of volunteers that give so much of themselves for the betterment of our profession.

I would like to encourage every PA out there reading this to get involved, volunteer, and run for the BOT. Let’s ensure that we continue growing and evolving the profession, to propel us into the future, stronger than ever before.”

We hope Jennifer’s story has inspired you to take the next step! Please consider nominating yourself here. To nominate another Fellow member or for more information, contact Chevanne Scordinsky, Administration Committee Chair, at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Chevanne Scordinsky, PA(ASCP)CM
