AAPA Membership Renewals Now Open for 2022!

Membership Renewals

Dear AAPA Members,

2021 has been another challenging year, with ups and downs, trials and successes – through it all we have remained strong through the commitment of our members and our dedicated volunteers. As we near the end of the year, we hope you will take a few moments to renew your AAPA membership! I would like to reflect on some of the incredible new accomplishments from our members, volunteers, and leadership just over this past year and look ahead to how we will benefit our members’ future in the year to come.

How we’ve supported our members’ education and development:

  • Provided high-quality, PA-targeted CE opportunities
  • Offered 20 free CE credits with your annual membership, enough to fulfill the new 60 credit recertification requirement over the course of three years
  • Provided optional automatic transfer for Fellows of all AAPA-earned credits to the ASCP BOC on a routine basis for easier CMP
  • Categorized all CEs offered for ease of certification renewal, including offering all required credits – Advanced AP, General AP, Medical Ethics, and Safety credits
  • Published a new AAPA Membership/Salary Survey using a third-party provider for the first time
  • Adapted to both virtual education conferences and modified in-person Annual Conference to provide interaction and CE for members

How we’ve represented our members and our profession to others:

  • Continued our successful branding campaign, “It Pays to Know”
  • Had 7 PAs nominated for The Pathologist’s Power List and 3 PAs honored with ASCP’s 40 Under Forty campaign
  • Continued developing our relationships with the American Joint Committee on Cancer, the Commission on Cancer, and the College of American Pathologists
  • As conferences have returned, exhibited our new PR booth at the recent NAME meeting

How we’re already benefitting our members’ future:

  • Working to launch in the coming year a Preceptor Program for our PA educators and clinical instructors working with students and residents
  • Explored various paths to licensure to address feedback, concerns, and questions from our members, with creation of a licensure kit to assist designated members to represent the AAPA in legislative efforts
  • Pivoted to hold the Spring Meeting virtually and postpone the inaugural Summer Meeting, holding instead a Virtual Symposium in its place, for the safety of our members, speakers, and staff
  • Launched an International Member category to progress the visibility and credibility for the PA profession on a wider scale

This may seem like a long list, but would you believe that these bullet points are only the highlights? The AAPA has a phenomenal team of devoted, motivated volunteers and leaders whose mission is to support YOU as a pathologists’ assistant, but we can’t do this without you. We look forward to having you renew your membership as we move forward together into 2022.

Thank you for making the AAPA the only professional organization built by PAs for PAs.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Tobias, PA(ASCP)CM
Chair, Membership Committee
