Scholarships & Travel Grants
Compete for your chance to win a travel grant to attend the AAPA Annual Conference, Spring Meeting, or Summer Meeting within the next two years. A total of four travel grants will be awarded to Fellow members in 2025, and one travel grant will be awarded to a 2nd year Student Non-Delegate member. Additionally, there will be a Student General Education Scholarship available to all 2nd year students.
Every scholarship and travel grant submission is peer-reviewed; therefore, if awarded, it comes with a published peer-reviewed manuscript that can be added to a resume.

Eligibility
- The first author must be a Fellow member of the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants
- Manuscripts submitted for a travel grant at any other state and/or national pathology conference or which have been accepted for prior publication are not eligible
- The manuscript must be the original work of the author(s)
- The first author may only submit one manuscript per annual travel grant
Grant Details
This award is offered twice per year and will receive a grant valued at up to $2,000 to include registration to an upcoming Annual Conference, Spring Meeting, or Summer Meeting within the next two years + up to $1,000 to assist with participation expenses.

Purpose
The AAPA Volunteer Recognition Grant, sponsored by Nicklas Medical Staffing, aims to support dedicated volunteers who contribute meaningfully to the organization and profession but face financial or logistical barriers to conference attendance. This grant will provide funding to enable participation in an AAPA meeting or conference of the winner’s choosing, ensuring that engaged members can continue their professional growth and involvement.
Eligibility Criteria
— Must be an AAPA Fellow in good standing.
— Must have a history of active volunteerism within AAPA (e.g., committee work, mentorship, special projects, or advocacy efforts).
— Must demonstrate a significant financial or structural barrier to attending the conference, such as:
- Little to no employer reimbursement for conference expenses.
- Limited opportunities due to workplace structure (e.g., large groups where conference attendance is rotated infrequently).
- Dependence on grant-based or inconsistent funding sources for professional development.
Nomination Process
— Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by another AAPA member.
— A nomination must include:
- A statement detailing the applicant’s AAPA volunteer contributions and their impact.
- A brief explanation of financial or structural barriers to attending the conference.
- (Optional) A letter of support from a colleague, supervisor, or fellow AAPA member.
Call for Manuscripts Reporting on Macroscopic Dissection Techniques of Cancer Surgical or Autopsy Pathology Cases

- Non-delegate student members who will be in their second year of training as of the Annual Conference are eligible
- Manuscripts submitted for a travel grant at any other state and/or national pathology conference or which have been accepted for prior publication are not eligible
- The manuscript must be the original work of the author(s)
- The first author may only submit one manuscript per annual travel grant
Grant Details
The winning entry will receive a travel grant valued at up to $1,800 (registration + $1,000 to help cover travel expenses) to attend the Annual Conference, Spring Meeting, or Summer Meeting of their choosing (within the next two years).
Call for manuscripts reporting on the following topic: Analyze how AI is currently being integrated into pathology workflows and speculate on how PAs can best prepare for or leverage this technology in the future.
February 1, 2025 – May 1, 2025

- All student members who will be in their second year of training as of the Annual Conference are eligible

- The first author may only submit one manuscript per annual scholarship
Scholarship Details
The winning entry will receive a $2,500 scholarship toward their education.
All training programs are invited to send two representatives each to attend our Annual Conference.
Training programs are contacted by the AAPA in the winter.
Eligibility
- The two students must be in their second year at the time of the Annual Conference.
Program Details
Student delegates are required to participate in a number of activities leading up to and including their time at the conference. In return, the AAPA provides complimentary conference registration and accommodations, with up to two students per room, for the length of the program. Student delegates will be responsible for their airfare, meals outside of those provided with their conference registration, and any incidentals.
Each student delegate is required to arrive on Sunday afternoon and depart on Thursday. The total length of stay is five (5) days and four (4) nights at the conference.
