Committee Chair

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and collaborate with the various MarComm subcommittees.
  • Ensure subcommittees prioritize tasks and complete them in the timelines created.
    • Subcommittees include Ad Sales, Advocacy, Digital Communication, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Print Communication, External/Public Marketing, Internal Marketing, and Media.
  • Assist each committee member with accomplishing their individual goals, working together as a team, and collaborating with other AAPA committees.
  • Be the point person for communication between subcommittees, in collaboration with Kellen Company, to help facilitate each subcommittee’s goals.
  • Communicate with the Board of Trustees committee oversite, to address issues brought forth by subcommittees.
Desired Expertise
  • Strong organization skills, communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to introduce innovative ways to further promote the pathologists’ assistant profession.
Time Commitment
  • ~10-20 hours/month – includes an hour-long monthly committee meeting, with additional meetings for specific instances.
Travel Commitment
  • None required, but if able, the chair may attend the Fall conference leadership meeting with other committee chairs/vice chairs and the Board of Trustees where committee activities and accomplishments are discussed in a round table format.

Title: Vice Chair – Susan Stillman, PA(ASCP)CM

Mission

To provide guidance of the subcommittees in collaboration with the chair and create plans where needed of action items for members.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and collaborate with all MarComm subcommittees, with the committee chair.
  • Attend subcommittee meetings and ensure subcommittees are prioritizing tasks and completing them in a timely manner.
  • Attend monthly meetings with MarComm committee chair and BOT oversight in order to address issues brought forth by subcommittees.
Desired Expertise
  • Strong organization skills, communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to introduce innovative ways to further promote the pathologists’ assistant profession.
Time Commitment
  • 1-hour monthly meeting with the Committee Chair and BOT oversight.
  • 90-minute monthly meeting with all Subcommittee Chairs.
  • 1-4 hours per month outside of meetings to correspond, research, prepare for meetings.
  • The time commitment can become greater if a time sensitive issue arises.
Travel Commitment
  • No definitive travel requirements – meetings and correspondence are virtual.
  • Potential to meet with other committee chairs at fall or other conferences if available.

Subcommittee Name: Advocacy

Title: Advocacy Subcommittee Chair – Jennifer McGee

Mission

The Advocacy Subcommittee’s goal is to promote the pathologists’ assistant profession to non-PAs through marketing and communication tools, reaching important stakeholders in the future of the pathologists’ assistant profession.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Meet monthly with MarComm Committee Chair, Vice Chair, and all other subcommittee chairs within MarComm.
  • Lead and attend monthly meetings with subcommittee members.
  • Prepare summaries for annual state of the association town halls.
  • Create items to help promote the PA profession, as needed, including documents, letters to those outside of the profession, surveys, and other forms of marketing.
  • Develop survey questions with committee on various topics should the need arise.
  • Initiate discussions and provide historical knowledge/expertise on current topics/issues.
  • Track and monitor active opportunities for advocacy.
  • Recruit new members as needed.
Desired Expertise
  • PAs with a passion for championing the profession.
  • Familiarity with AAPA position statements and current projects.
  • Comfortable speaking with committee members, pathologists, PAs, related professional organizations or regulatory bodies such as ASCP and CAP.
  • Ability to modify, draft, or co-author documents which may need to be sent out for advocacy purposes which could include members, pathologists, related professional organizations, regulatory bodies, or governmental authorities.
Time Commitment
  • 1-hour monthly meeting with subcommittee members.
  • 90-minute monthly meeting with all Subcommittee Chairs.

Entry Level Positions

Ad Sales

Title: Ad Sales Subcommittee Chair: Steve Vanko, PA(ASCP)CM

Mission

Recruiting and seeking out sponsorships from companies and vendors relevant to PAs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Send emails to potential company partners introducing the AAPA and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Maintain relationships with current sponsors through email and phone calls.
  • Maintain relationships with Diamond and Platinum Sponsors.
  • Create and modify media kit.
Desired Expertise
  • All levels are welcome to apply.
  • Previous experience in sales welcome, but the committee will teach.
Time Commitment
  • One hour/week.
  • Busy season: Tasks throughout the year but busiest times are Jan-Feb for Spring Meeting and July-Aug for Fall Meeting.
Travel Commitment
  • May occasionally travel with MarComm to industry events.
  • Helpful, but not necessary to attend the fall conference each year to meet vendors in person.

Why should I volunteer?
