The American College of Surgeons (ACS) recognizes the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shift in priorities for hospitals dealing with patients impacted by the pandemic. Many of our hospitals have asked how ACS can assist in helping hospitals track COVID-19 patients and assist in data analysis efforts for those patients.
As a result of those requests, the ACS has launched the ACS COVID-19 Registry to track all adult patients diagnosed with COVID-19 at participating institutions. This free, voluntary program was developed by ACS in conjunction with several experts from New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Queens, and Emory University Hospital.
The ACS COVID-19 Registry will collect data on all COVID-19 diagnosed patients age 18 and over at a hospital from admission through discharge. Data variables cover demographics, severity predictors, admission information, hospitalization information, therapies used, and discharge information. Data collection for the registry will be through REDCap. Though a formal data dictionary with access to clinical support does not exist for this program, clinical experts have provided data variable clarifications to assist with data collection efforts.
Participation in the ACS COVID-19 Registry is open to all hospitals. Simply complete a request to participate for your hospital; no additional contracts are required. We hope you will join us in this opportunity improve our collective understanding for a disease about which little is known.
Sites wishing to participate in the program can visit our website, contact [email protected], or reach out directly to Amy Sachs at [email protected] for additional information.
