Hello AAPA Members,
The AAPA held a town hall on Thursday, February 10th, to discuss the possibility of exploring a title change. The town hall coincided with a survey that had been sent to members two weeks earlier on Friday, January 28th, asking for their opinion on a title change. The town hall was moderated by Emily Loter, Education Committee Vice Chair, and featured Cory Nash, Marketing and Communications “MarComm” Committee Chair, and Sarah Garner, Advocacy Subcommittee Chair.
The town hall was held via GoToWebinar and began with 40 minutes of pre-determined questions, followed by a Q&A session where members were able to submit questions. Throughout the town hall, there were great discussions and dialogue centered around exploring a title change. Some of the highlights included:
- An overview of how the title change discussion first started and what steps have happened since
- What other professions have attempted a title change and whether they were successful
- How the title change might affect PA students, our degrees, and our credentials
- Whether this would interfere with efforts being done on state licensure and CLIA
- What the next steps would be if members agreed to pursue a title change
- How much is a title change going to cost
Now that the town hall is done, it is up to you, our members, to let us know your thoughts on pursuing a title change. The survey that was originally sent is open until Friday, February 25th. The more members we hear from, the better we will be able to understand what your thoughts are on this topic. The town hall was recorded and is now available to be viewed here (member login required). Check your email for the link to fill out the survey if you have not done so already. ***You do not need to take the survey again if you have already submitted it.***
Thank you for your participation in this important discussion!
