Title: Storytelling and Narrative in DE&I: The Diversify In Path Podcast Experience

Speaker Bio: Dr. Michael Williams is a current neuropathology fellow at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University prior to embarking on his fellowship to Birmingham.
Session Description: Basic – Entry level; no prior knowledge of subject necessary – Podcasting can be seen as a powerful tool to engage listeners in discussions about race, gender, sexuality, and all the other diverse aspects of an individual’s life. Within this talk, Dr. Michael Williams will share his experience with starting the Diversify in Path (D.I.P.) podcast and the individual stories of diversity in pathology that were organically shared between him and his guests.
Objectives: At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the role of pathology and laboratory medicine professionals in advocacy.
- Utilize given resources to explore how to advocate on a “grassroots” level.
- Appreciate the power of podcasting as a tool for advocacy.
