The final day to submit AAPA Board of Trustees (BOT) nominations is Friday, April 19.
If you are interested in running, don’t miss this deadline! There are three seats available for the upcoming 2020-2022 term, and one spot to be appointed immediately to serve through the end of 2019. The election for the 2020-2022 seats will be held in August and winners will be announced in September.
Below, BOT member Shannon McWilliams, PA(ASCP)CM, shares how serving on the Board of Trustees changed her perspective on the association and the PA profession.
“I became a member of the AAPA while a first-year student at the University of Maryland program. With the sacrifices I was making – a long distance move and student loans – there was never any question that I would become a member in my professional organization. A friend convinced me to get involved with the AAPA, and I started working in the Membership Committee. Many years later, I was asked to run for the Board of Trustees (BOT) and serve my organization in a different way. It was a huge step for me, and I don’t regret it.
Being a member of the BOT gives you a different perspective; it allows you to see how the decisions that are made affect the organization and the overall profession. You can’t think about how something will affect a single member, but how it will influence us all as pathologists’ assistants. Everyone on the BOT is dedicated to the promotion and protection of the profession. The BOT takes a close look at every response made in surveys that are sent to AAPA members. These comments and concerns help us to determine the actions that need to be taken and the direction in which we are headed. I know it may seem like no one is listening to you, but I promise you we are.
If you want to see the AAPA be the best it can be, if you have ideas that you believe will propel the organization to new heights of recognition and respect, or if you just want to give back, please consider running for the Board of Trustees. You too can help shape the future of the AAPA.”
