Help Find the Best Path Forward for the AAPA – Submit a BOT Nomination by March 31

BOT Nominations

Beth Obertino-Norwood

AAPA Fellow Members,

There are just about two weeks remaining to submit nominations for the AAPA Board of Trustees (BOT)! If you are interested in applying (or know of a colleague that would be a perfect fit), please submit your nomination by March 31st. Three seats are available for the upcoming 2024-2026 term. The election will be held in September, and results will be announced in October.

Below, Beth Obertino-Norwood details her volunteer journey – from a Certification Exam Study Course volunteer to Chair of the Education Committee and, later, to BOT Chair – and encourages others to consider running for a seat on the Board of Trustees.

“I have been a member of the AAPA since 2002 and began volunteering in some capacity soon after that. After starting work with the Certification Exam Study Course, I became the Chair of the Education Committee, and then moved on to the BOT in 2018. I love the connections and friendships I have made over the years with colleagues from all over the country both at conferences and as a volunteer.

I have to confess that it gave me some pause to consider running for the BOT. I liked being a committee ‘worker bee’ and worried that the BOT would feel less hands-on. I most definitely have not found that to be true. What I have found is a group of committed PAs who work hard to find the best path forward for the AAPA.

In addition to meeting at the Fall Conference, the BOT meets for a long working weekend [annually]. During this ‘think-tank’ weekend, we take a look at past and current initiatives to see what is working, what isn’t working, and what we need to do better. But more importantly, we talk about where we are going next. It is these conversations that make me so happy to be on the BOT. It feels great to sit in a room with eight other board members whose entire goal of that weekend is to make the best association it can for its members. How can we best help our members advocate for themselves? What are our members asking from us? How can we expand and grow our offerings? I am happy to be in a place where we can listen to our members and formulate a plan.

I encourage others to consider running for a seat on the BOT. It truly is a great way to learn the inner workings of your association and help envision its future.”

If you’re feeling inspired, please consider nominating yourself here. To nominate another Fellow member or for more information, contact Chevanne Scordinsky, Administration Committee Chair, at [email protected].
