Happy 10th Annual PA Day!

PA Day Logo

Happy Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) Day! Today – April 14, 2023 – marks the tenth anniversary of Pathologists’ Assistant Day, a day on which we celebrate the critical role Pathologists’ Assistants play in patient care, as well as our professional growth and development. Even organ man is getting in on the fun – thank you to Jesse McCoy, PA(ASCP)CM, for the awesome new graphic! It was on this day in 1972 that the founding fathers of the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants filed our Articles of Incorporation. The purpose of establishing this Association as outlined in the Articles still holds true today:

“This corporation is formed to promote the mutual association of trained pathologists’ assistants, to benefit and further that profession, including the promotion of ethical conduct in that profession, to improve the education of pathologists’ assistants, to inform the public and the medical profession concerning the goals of professional pathologists’ assistants, and to carry out other purposes incidental to the foregoing.”

Since then, the AAPA has grown to have over 2,300 members, many of whom use today to proudly promote the profession and our professional growth to our colleagues, healthcare professionals, and the public. Whether you have been promoting the profession for the last 50 years, have just joined the profession, or are somewhere in between, please know you are valued and recognized by the association, today and every day. This year, we wanted to hear from members in celebration of themselves and their fellow PAs more than ever! So many members sent in thank-yous to past mentors who inspired them and helped mold them into the professionals they are today. Check them out on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)! Then be sure to submit your own mentor thank you note here.

In honor of the AAPA’s 50th anniversary last year and the 10th anniversary of PA Day, AAPA BOT Historian Adjunct and 50th Anniversary Exhibit Curator Becky Stankowski, PA(ASCP)CM, created this awesome overview of the profession, which builds off the historical timeline of the profession previously developed by former BOT Historian Adjunct Tom Reilly, PA(ASCP)CM. This timeline is intended to provide our members with a history of the creation of our Association, its development and success, and how it is intimately involved with the creation and success of our profession.
