Title: Spring Meeting Vice Chair

Vice Chair: OPEN

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with all Spring Meeting planning.
  • Attend monthly conference meeting.
  • Collaborate with Spring Meeting Chair on-site to assist with meeting, act as stage manager and assist speakers.
  • Train to become Spring Meeting Chair.
Desired Expertise
  • Experience serving on a conference subcommittee.
  • Previous attendance at a Spring Meeting.
Time Commitment
  • 1-2 hours/week non-busy season.
  • Busy season: Spring conference.
Travel Commitment
  • Must be able to attend Spring Meeting each year.
  • Attending the Fall Conference is a benefit but not a requirement.

Subcommittee Name: Education and Content Strategy – Study Materials OPENINGS

Mission

Create and maintain an up-to-date study guide for students taking the ASCP Board of Certification exam within the LMS.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Write at least 10 complex questions/year based on source texts.
  • Write explanations for each correct and incorrect answer.
  • Edit questions as necessary with updated source texts.
Desired Expertise
  • Open to PAs only.
Time Commitment
  • 5-10 hours per year, at volunteers’ discretion
  • Busy season: Evenly distributed throughout the year.
Travel Commitment
  • No travel necessary.

Subcommittee Name: Education and Content Strategy – Webinar Coordinator OPEN

Mission

Serve as liaison between AAPA Central Office and groups/individuals contributing to interactive web-based content to provide high quality and efficient news releases to members.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify content and assess proposals for potential webinar content.
  • Coordinate and manage logistics between Central Office and presenting parties.
  • Attend practice round with panelists.
  • Coach moderator and any supporting volunteers regarding welcome messages, using the webinar function, chat box, and Q&A functions.
  • Monitor attendee feedback and troubleshoot issues in real time.
Desired Expertise
  • Previous experience with meeting software.
  • Comfort in speaking virtually to a crowd.
  • Ability to multitask.
Time Commitment
  • 1–2-hour long webinars/year.
  • 1–2-hour long practice sessions/year.
Travel Commitment
  • No travel necessary.

Subcommittee Name: Quiz Creation OPENINGS

Mission

Create and edit 10-question quizzes for all articles, webinars, and lectures worth continuing education credit.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Team is responsible for writing 20 article quizzes/year, approximately 30 lecture quizzes/year, and other quizzes as necessary and having another team member take and edit each quiz.
  • Creation: For each assigned quiz, write 12-13 moderately challenging multiple-choice questions.
  • Editing: For each assigned quiz, take the quiz, correct any ambiguity, grammar, or inaccuracies, and narrow the questions to the final 10 that will be released to membership.
Desired Expertise
  • Experience writing test questions is a bonus, but the committee will train.
Time Commitment
  • For most of the year, create or edit 1 quiz/month.
  • Actual time spent on quiz creation varies per person and per material type.
    • For articles, roughly 2-4 hours to read manuscript and create questions/answers.
    • For recordings, roughly 3-5 hours to watch recording and create questions/answers.
  • Busy season:  October-December following Fall Conference, quiz creation for 2-3 lectures/week; lead-up to release of Beyond the Bench/following any recorded conferences or seminars where large batches of materials are released.
Travel Commitment
  • No travel necessary (lecture recordings will be provided).

Subcommittee Name: Peer Review OPENINGS

Mission

To provide a two-step anonymous peer review process similar to other journals that ensures all continuing education published through the AAPA is of high quality.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review all articles submitted by the student delegates and fellows (scholarships/travel grants, student delegate program, Cutting Edge Journal).
  • Make any grammatical or syntax corrections.
  • Remove any HIPAA violating information.
  • Offer feedback and suggestions to authors.
Desired Expertise
  • No previous reviewing experience needed.
Time Commitment
  • 1-2 hours for first round of reviews.
  • 30-60 minutes for second round of reviews.
  • Busy season: Articles throughout year, but especially busy May-January.
Travel Commitment
  • No travel necessary.

Subcommittee Name: Conference Photographer 1-2 OPENINGS

Mission

Capture high quality photographs of presenters, special events, and awards at conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Photograph speakers, as permitted.
  • Photograph attendees at breaks, vendor events, poster sessions, and social activities.
  • Edit and upload photos to AAPA database.
Desired Expertise
  • Experience in event photography.
  • Access to photography equipment.
Time Commitment
  • Ability to attend and photograph the entire fall, spring, or summer conference (2-4 days).
  • Minor editing.
Travel Commitment
  • Must be able to physically attend one of three conferences each year.

Subcommittee Name: Speaker Recruitment – Talent Acquisition OPENINGS

Mission

Seek out well-spoken experts (pathologists, surgeons, PAs, and ancillary professionals) to give lectures at the annual Fall and Spring Conferences (and Summer Meeting, if applicable).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Two years in advance of each conference, reach out to PAs in area of conference to seek out recommendations for speakers.
  • Email potential speakers with information about the conference.
  • Coordinate with Central Office Staff to onboard approved speakers.
  • Keep open communication with upcoming speakers and provide information about deadlines and resources.
  • Act as a resource for lecture content and provide details about the intended audience.
Desired Expertise
  • Previous attendance at a conference.
Time Commitment
  • 1-3 hours/month.
  • Busy seasons – recruitment for the Spring Conference typically occurs in the Summer; recruitment for the Fall Conference usually begins in the Spring/Summer the year before the conference.
Travel Commitment
  • Ability to attend conference helpful, but not necessary.

Subcommittee Name: Speaker Recruitment – Review Team OPENINGS

Mission

Provide feedback and guidance for speakers at upcoming conferences, ensure quality of conference lectures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend a virtual presentation of lectures from speakers who desire a dress rehearsal before their official lecture.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to make the lecture more relevant to PA audience.
  • Answer questions and be a resource for speaker questions.
Desired Expertise
  • Previous attendance at conference helpful.
Time Commitment
  • 1–2-hour long lectures/year.
Travel Commitment
  • Attendance at conference helpful, but not necessary.
