Help us welcome these new AAPA Committee leaders!

Please help us extend a warm welcome and congratulations to these new committee leaders! The AAPA is so lucky to have such a talented and dedicated group of volunteers who are willing and able to work to improve the profession for current and future generations of pathologists’ assistants.

New Administration Committee Chair Appointed

Duong

Melissa T. Duong, MS, PA(ASCP)CM
Associate Director of Anatomic Pathology
Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital

Melissa T. Duong’s time as a student member and now fellow of the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants has introduced her to the many roles of a PA, reinforced the importance of supporting each other, and inspired advocacy for the profession. After graduating from Drexel University’s PA program, she worked at Penn Medicine Princeton and HNL Lab Medicine, where she continued to challenge herself technically. At HNL, she also served as Process Excellence Lead and helped optimize processes for quality assurance and foster communication between stakeholders. This experience introduced her to administration, strategic planning, and quality management, motivating her to complete a healthcare business certificate from the Wharton School of Business and an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt. In 2023, she returned to Penn Medicine as the Associate Director of Anatomic Pathology at Chester County Hospital. She applies her growth mindset and creativity to nurture an open environment promoting excellence and quality initiatives, engaging with employees, mitigating waste, and facilitating change. She co-authored several peer-reviewed papers on the stromal microenvironment in the growth of tumors and inflammatory pseudotumors. She also strives to balance work with baking, traveling, and being a mentor and lifelong learner. In her new role as Chair of the AAPA Administration Committee, Melissa looks forward to leading and advocating for the PA community. She is very excited to collaborate with everyone on AAPA initiatives and continue the impactful work of her predecessors and current team members.

Thank you to Chevanne Scordinsky for her years of service leading the Administration Committee. Fortunately for us, Chevanne will continue on as a member of the Legislative and Nominations Subcommittees sharing her wealth of knowledge developed over the years.

Education Committee Vice Chair Appointed as Chair

Nangano

Emily Nangano, MS, PA(ASCP)CM
Research Pathologists’ Assistant
Virginia Commonwealth University

Emily’s journey with the AAPA began as a student member from 2012-2014, during which she served as a student delegate for Drexel University at the 2013 Annual Conference. Since then, Emily has been deeply involved with the Education Committee, starting out as a speaker recruiter and advancing through various roles including the Annual (Fall) Conference Vice Chair and ultimately the Vice Chair of the Education Committee. In addition to her committee work, Emily has contributed content to the Preceptor Program’s Behavioral Module, conducted mock interviews for student delegates, and served as a program liaison for Drexel University. She has presented lectures at conferences, as well as moderated panel discussions, Town Hall Meetings, and State of the Association meetings. Professionally, Emily works as a Research PA at Virginia Commonwealth University and owns a small flower farm alongside her husband in Montpelier, VA. She is excited to bring her experience and passion to this role and looks forward to collaborating to further enhance our educational offerings and support the growth of the profession.

Thank you to Meghan Pickard for all the time and energy she has invested, not to mention all the PowerPoints created, as Education Chair! We are fortunate to have Meghan continue to serve as BOT oversight of this committee.

She graduated in 2017, going to work in a fast-paced, high volume academic center. After settling in to her new job, Kaysi began volunteering for the Education Committee by joining the Preceptor Program at the time of its initial brainstorming and inception meetings in 2019. She is the lead of the Introductory Module and still actively volunteers for the program. Kaysi also took over the Grossing Videos Subcommittee Chair position in 2022 and is actively working to revitalize and revamp it to fit in the post-pandemic professional environment. Kaysi is excited to continue supporting the AAPA’s education efforts for our ever-growing PA community, students and fellow members alike!
