Dear AAPA Fellow and Associate Members,
Thank you for your continued membership and support of the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA)! Membership runs on a calendar year, and our renewal drive opens annually on November 15 (this upcoming Monday). Renewals are standardly due by January 31 with a late fee applied beginning February 1. This year, the Membership Committee has recommended — and the Board of Trustees has approved — a nomenclature change.
Renewals received by January 31
- Prior language = “standard” membership rate of $190 for Fellows/$200 for Associates
- New language = early membership rate of $190 for Fellows/$200 for Associates
Renewals received on or after February 1
- Prior language = “late” membership rate of $210 for Fellows/$220 for Associates
- New language = standard membership rate of $210 for Fellows/$220 for Associates
The new terminology of an early renewal received by the deadline of January 31 will replace the old “standard” renewal language, and the new terminology of a standard renewal received on or after February 1 will replace the old “late” renewal language. This new language does not change the cost of renewing your membership for the 2022 calendar year as long as you renew, as a large majority of our members do, by the early deadline of January 31.
The committee has discussed this topic at length and found this structure is more in line with other professional organizations such as the American Academy of Physician Assistants, that do not have a late fee associated with their annual dues. Feedback from AAPA members has also indicated that employers are less likely to cover the cost of the late fee in addition to professional membership dues, which may lead to members forgoing renewal once the late fee becomes effective.
Please let us know if you have any questions about this change. We look forward to your continued membership and involvement in the AAPA!
Thank you,
Lindsay Tobias, PA(ASCP)CM AAPA Membership Committee Chair
