Dear AAPA Fellow Members,
The AAPA Board of Trustees election deadline is approaching on Friday, September 30 at 11:59 pm CDT, and we are currently only at 13% of the required vote (we need to reach a 25% quorum of Fellow members). As an AAPA Fellow member, you are invited and encouraged to participate in the election to help guide the future of your professional association. Thank you to all those who have cast their vote so far, either online or in person at the 47th Annual Conference in Minneapolis. If you have not yet voted, please remember to check your email inbox as well as your junk folder for the ballot invite from [email protected]. If you did not receive, or cannot locate, the ballot invite, please contact us at [email protected] for alternate means to vote.
Each week during September, we are highlighting one of the four candidates up for election. For our final BOT Candidate Spotlight, we are featuring Daniel Soderberg, MHS, PA(ASCP)CM.

Name: Daniel Soderberg, MHS, PA(ASCP) CM Organization: Mayo Clinic Location: Rochester, MN Fellow Member Since: 2011 Current AAPA Position: BOT Incumbent, MarComm Oversight
Please tell the AAPA membership about yourself, and describe your past volunteer work. I have four kids, and our family enjoys spending a lot of time outdoors, including during our long Minnesota winters. I graduated from the Quinnipiac PA program in 2011 and have spent most of my time as a pathologists’ assistant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I volunteered within the AAPA for several years prior to becoming a member of the BOT, am currently a volunteer on the ASCP Pathologists’ Assistant Certification Exam committee, volunteer as the student liaison for PA students rotating at Mayo Clinic – Rochester, and do a lot of public outreach (including coordinating shadowing opportunities and career fairs) for our profession. Volunteering takes time but is the life blood of our organization.
Why are you interested in serving on the AAPA BOT? I’ve had a tremendous opportunity to serve on the board these last three years, and it has been even more fulfilling than I initially suspected. We have incredibly talented individuals in this organization who give so much of their time, it has been rewarding to work with them in furthering the mission of the AAPA. I’d love the chance to continue working with current board and organization members in fulfilling that mission.
What is your understanding of the mission and vision of this organization? The AAPA has always been about advocating for our profession and our members. This is done in myriad ways as evidenced by the several subcommittees we oversee, whether that be through member, health care worker, or public education; marketing and communicating our unique skillset; or legislative and PR advocacy, to name a few. We play a critical role in patient care, and there are diverse ways we can continue to grow our sphere of influence.
