Member News

Hello AAPA Members,

The AAPA is pro-licensure for Pathologists’ Assistants and has consistently supported licensure attempts over the years. There are many parties who may not support licensure for a variety of reasons to include pathologists, administrators, and even fellow PAs. In response to non-supportive parties, the AAPA Legislative Subcommittee has developed a guide titled “Why Licensure“, which explains the benefits of licensure but also debunks some of the potential negatives that we have encountered.

In this guide, you’ll find important information including:

  • Benefits of Licensure
    • Benefits to the Pathologists’ Assistant
    • Benefits to the Pathology Group and/or Hospital/Lab
    • Benefits to Patients
  • What will licensure prevent?
  • Addressing Pathologists’ Fears
  • Addressing Pathologists’ Assistants’ Fears
  • What does lack of licensure mean in real terms?

Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to take a closer look at these points as explained by members of the AAPA Legislative Subcommittee. Take an even deeper dive into the topic of licensure for PAs at our upcoming Live CE Webinar, “AAPA Guide to Licensure”, to be presented by members of the subcommittee on Tuesday, October 1 at 7pm CDT. This session is free and open to all AAPA members – Fellow members will be able to earn 1 General AP CE credit. Learn more and register here.

This guide, along with our social media content and the webinar, have been created to allow all PAs to have a prepared response should the topic of licensure arise and require a response to non-supportive parties, resulting in a unified profession.

We encourage you to read the Why Licensure guide and familiarize yourself with this critical topic for our profession, now and looking toward the future. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].

Sincerely,
Jennifer Hudson, MS, PA(ASCP)CM
AAPA Legislative Subcommittee Chair
