2021 Annual Conference Social Cause – Sub-Saharan Africa Healthcare Initiative (SSAHI)

Sub-Saharan Africa Healthcare Initiative (SSAHI)

As part of our social awareness cause, look for ways to support the Sub-Saharan Africa Healthcare Initiative (SSAHI) throughout the conference.

The Sub-Saharan Africa Healthcare Initiative (SSAHI) is a not-for-profit organization established in 2017 and organized for the purposes of working to fill the dire need in laboratory medicine and imaging diagnostic services in Sub-Saharan Africa.

We envision a network of comprehensive, state of the art clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories as well as imaging diagnostic services with the aim of delivering high-quality, efficient, and affordable services to patients in Sub-Saharan African countries, under standards that meet or exceed international accreditation expectations.  SSAHI and its partners, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), are committed to:

  • Teaming-up with local government to provide a new world for medicine and diagnostic laboratories throughout the sub-Saharan region.
  • Conducting training for laboratory scientists and increasing the number of practicing pathologists and pathologists’ assistants in the region.

SSAHI strongly believes in educating relevant governmental staff agencies, policy makers, and the clinical community about the central role and importance of pathology, which is crucial to increasing support for improved pathology and diagnostic imaging services in the region.
