2015 Student Delegate Program

Dear @@first_name@@:

The American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA) would like to invite two student members from your training program to attend our special 41st Annual AAPA Continuing Education Conference at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, August 30 – September 3, 2015. The two students must be in their second year at the time of the conference.

While the selection process is, of course, at your discretion, please take into consideration all of the responsibilities of the students, as outlined below, when selecting your program’s representatives. These student delegates will be required to participate in a number of activities during their time at the conference. In return, the AAPA will provide complimentary conference registration and dorm style accommodations, with four students per room, for the length of the program. Student delegates will be responsible for their airfare, meals outside of those provided with their conference registration, and any incidentals.

Each student delegate is required to arrive on Sunday afternoon and depart on Thursday. The total length of stay will be five (5) days and four (4) nights at the conference. If the delegates would like to extend their stay beyond this time-frame, they may do so at their own expense.

Each student delegate must meet the following requirements to participate in the program:

  • Write a peer-reviewed article for publication (see Member Resources >Publications > How to Submit a Student Delegate Article for instructions)
    • Article draft due April 1
    • Final article due July 1
    • Top articles will be published in our quarterly journal, The Cutting Edge
  • Present a poster at the conference (based on the article)
    • Poster abstract due May 15
    • Poster CME questions due July 15
    • Poster presentation as assigned September 1 or 2
  • Onsite attendance requirements
    • Sunday afternoon “Meet and Greet” with other delegates and AAPA Leadership (5 – 6 pm)
    • Sunday Welcome Party (7 – 9 pm)
    • Attend and scan in for all 4 lectures on Monday (8 am – 1 pm)
    • Monday Student Roundtable discussion (3 – 5 pm)
    • Attend and scan in for all 3 lectures on Tuesday (8 – 11:30 am)
    • Tuesday Student Poster Presentations  (2:30 – 4:30 pm)
    • Attend and scan in for all 4 lectures on Wednesday (8 am – 1 pm)
    • Wednesday Student Poster Presentations (2:30 – 4:30 pm)
    • Wednesday Happy Hour with the Exhibitors (4 – 7pm)
    • Attend and scan in for all lectures on Thursday (based on flight schedule)

Following the conference, we would recommend that the delegates be given an opportunity to share their experiences and any information they obtained from the conference with their fellow classmates.

Please follow *this link* to complete a form selecting the two delegates that will represent your program. Your delegates should be chosen no later than February 20, 2015.

Second year students not chosen to participate as a delegate are welcome to attend the conference. A reduced registration fee for student members will be available. New this year:  we are opening Monday’s roundtable session to all students registered for the conference (instead of limiting this session only to delegates).

Additionally, second year non-student delegates are eligible to submit a Case Study with the winning entry receiving a scholarship to attend the conference valued at $1600 (full week registration + $1000 to help cover travel expenses). More details to follow on this scholarship after the student delegates from each program are named.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our student delegate program, please include your thoughts on the submission form or contact Michelle Sok at the AAPA Central Office at 800.532.AAPA or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Justin Berry, PA(ASCP)CM
